Many of you already know that we are working on building a new building. What we aren't sure everyone knows is why it is such an important project. Veterans organizations over the years have given our veterans a stronger voice when they needed it most. When a war or conflict is on the front page of every newspaper and on the news every night, we are all thinking about it on a daily basis. After it is over and the men and women who fought that war come home, there is less focus on their needs. Veterans organizations are who goes to the aid of the soldiers who may not get the benefits that they are entitled to. They lobby for the passing of bills that ensure that our veterans are properly cared for after they are home and going back to their own lives. It is more difficult than it may seem to come home and go back to life as it was. The V.F.W. is there to help make sure the newly returning soldiers know that others understand and can help. All over the country veterans organizations are unable to keep their buildings due to the overwhelming expense of maintaining them. We are fortunate to have been able to sustain our building, but its state of disrepair is making it difficult. We ask for your donations for a building, but more importantly for our cause. The hope is that we will be able to help keep the V.F.W. strong nationally and locally so that every service man or woman is treated with the care and respect that their service to their country has earned them. Thank-you for any help you are able to give.

Here is Principal Michael Biddle with a group of children from Guilford Lakes School. These kids have a whole pile of boxes behind them that contain items to be mailed Iraq. Maj. Daniel Smith is in Iraq and he and his unit are working with the civilian population of Baghdad. Guilford students collected items for the kids who come to the community center that the troops are helping to support. Items included backpacks, notebooks, pens & pencils and much more. The pictures they are holding are Thanksgiving cards that each student in every grade made to be sent along with the packages. Up to this point we have been able to mail over 70 packages because of the kids at Guilfird Lakes, Melissa Jones and Calvin Leete. A.W. Cox also wrote letters to veterans to be distributed by the V.F.W. Anyone who is interested in helping with this project can contact us by email or at (203) 467-2868.
